Remember When The Late Filmmaker Yash Chopra Saved Amitabh Bachchan From Bankruptcy?
In present days, if someone calls Yash Chopra’s name and most people around us will associate with him the title of ‘King of Romance’ and while that is a part of his legacy. But the lesser-known fact is that he is the man who played a huge role in making Amitabh Bachchan the icon he eventually became, maybe twice over. The ‘angry young man’ titled Big B came from the words of Salim-Javed but he came to life at his best with Yash Chopra. Yash Chopra is the director who accomplished Salim-Javed’s words into vision in “Deewar” also brought to life in the different shades of Big B from Silsila who was torn between love and duty. Once Amitabh was looking to revive his career after bankruptcy, Yash Chopra was the man Amitabh Bachchan called.

The collaboration between Yash Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan started in the year 1975 with the movie “Deewar” and Amitabh Bachchan was a star after the 1973 film “Zanjeer” and got the title of ‘angry young man. The movie “Deewar” was written by Salim-Javed and is still considered one of the best films of Hindi cinema.

In 2016, at the time of India Today Unforgettables stage 2016, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that - “I had a huge financial failure in the corporation that I began. It went bankrupt and it bankrupted me.” He said further added - “You (Yash Chopra) sit back and think ‘What can I do?’ and I said, ‘You are an actor. Go back to acting so, that’s what I did. I went to Yash ji and said I am without a job. I need it.” And then Big B got  “Mohabbatein” .  The movie was produced by Yash Chopra, and directed by Aditya Chopra who was directing his second feature after the huge success “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”. While “Mohabbatein”, with the television reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” has completely changed Amitabh Bachchan’s luck at a stage when he really needed it.

Amitabh Bachchan last worked in Yash Chopra’s “Veer Zaara”, though Amitabh had a small role in the film, it was still a memorable one.

However, Yash Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan both had successful films without each other, but their association in the 1970s gave a path to them where they enjoyed huge success and that eventually made them the icons they are today.
